Moira Sweeney

Moira Sweeney is a filmmaker exploring creative and innovative ways of visualising the personal within changing social worlds. In 2017, her  film Keepers of the Port premiered at the Irish Film Institute as part of Port Perspectives and received a Best Documentary Nomination from the Kerry Film Festival. The Irish Times described the film as 'a poem to a way of life that has changed utterly in a generation, but which hasn't entirely disappeared . . . there's an unexpected sense of harmony and of beauty in this highly industrial space'. In 2019, she collaborated with Southpaw Pictures on Starboard Home (2019), a filmic love letter to the Liffey, in which the words of contemporary Irish songwriters and musicians are visualised to evoke the once formative link between Dublin city and its docks. The film premiered at the Irish Film Institute as part of Tradfest and was broadcast on RTÉ. It received a Business to Arts Judges' Special Recognition Award and is now available on the RTÉ International Player
